Why we recommend it

Turmeric in a capsule is mostly a waste of money. The curcumin content is low, absorption is worse, and the dose on the label rarely survives contact with your gut. This is the root itself, cold-pressed rather than dried, at up to 35g a shot, which is a different proposition from a powder.

What we would say is that the evidence for turmeric is soft: the reason to drink one is that you like it and it works for you.

The carb bands are ours. Zero is under a gram a serving, Low under five, Medium under ten. Where a product's own marketing and its nutrition panel disagree, the panel wins and we say so on the page.

Only carbohydrates become glucose. Protein becomes amino acids and fat becomes fatty acids, which is why a fatty snack with two grams of carbohydrate does very little to your glucose and a fat-free one with twenty does rather a lot.
